Alexander Calder is a famous American abstract sculptor. In fact, his humungous Flamingo is just a few blocks from here. This much smaller work is entitled Flying Dragon and is dated 1975. It is made of red painted steel plate.
According to the Wikipedia article (visit link) about the sculpture, the piece is intended to represent a dragonfly.
