Roger Maris was one of many famous New York Yankees. In 1961 he broke Babe Ruth's record of 60 home runs in a season by hitting 61. This record has been eclipsed in the recent past by Mark McGuire, Sammy Sosa, and Barry Bonds. However, the controversy about the use of illegal steroids force some to believe that Maris is still the big leagues home-run king.
