This giant painting on an easel was unveiled in the town of Emerald, Queensland, Australia in 1999. The painter is Cameron Cross (from Winnipeg, Canada) and is part of the Big Easel Project which aims to recreate all 7 of Van Goghs sunflowers paintings on giant easels throughout the world.
The plaque reads:
"The Emerald Giant Van Gogh Sunflower Painting 'The largest painting in the world on an easel' was proudly sponsored by:". 34 businesses and individuals are listed. The sites overall sponsor is the Emerald Shire Council.
So far the project has unveiled 3 sites:
1. Altona, Canada (1998)
2. Emerald, Australia (1999)
3. Goodland, USA (2001)
Future sites are planned in South Africa and Japan.
