The contoured model of the entire Tongariro National Park features the three volcanoes and contains small red lights at various points around the Park. By pressing switches the lights illuminate to show where different features, e.g. the Chateau, the mountain craters, waterfalls etc, are situated.
Walk outside the Visitor Centre and you can see the three actual volcanoes spread out before your eyes, Mt Ruapehu towering above you and cone-shaped Ngauruhoe and Mt Tongariro lined up towards the north.
The model lies within the Whakapapa Visitor Centre.
