This post was organized at Battle Mountain Sanitarum, a government institution for honorably discharged soldiers, sailors, and marines of all wars.

In 1919, this post was named Battle Mountain Post 71 and elected William Jones as its first Commander.

The post home was built in 1923 and has been updated on several occassions.

Congressman Francis Case was from this post, of whom Lake Francis Case, on the Missouri River, was named.

Its 2012 membership goal is 265.

The 40&8 also holds its meetings at the Post.
