A date on a tudor-style building next to the great eastgate clock on eastgate street.
The date is carved into one of the wooden beams on the top floor and thankfully is painted white on black to make it nice and clear to the waymarker.
The building is, considering the date, a rebuilt of a former building on the same site. It seems that many of the buildings in the centre of the town are rebuilds of similar buildings in an earlier style.
