The Angel of Independence is one of the most recognized symbols of Mexico City and indeed the country of Mexico. It is located in the heart of the city at the Paseo de la Reforma. Construction of the statue began on January 2, 1902. The sculptor was Porfirio Díaz and the architect for the project was Antonio Rivas Mercado. This monument to pays tribute to the heroes of Mexico’s Independence. The plaque on the replica is inscribed:

{Bust of Manuel Hildago}
{Warriors in Armor on Left and Right}

This statue represents the
hearts of the Mexican people.
It is our sincere wish that the
U.S. and Mexico will continue to
work together.
