A boardwalk crosses between Civil War earthworks and through a marshy area on a trail to a historic site. The walk is located on Lee Drive which is part of the
Fredericksburg battlefield. The natural surface trail leads to the site of Bernard's Cabins which was a small community of slaves and where Union troops charged across the railroad tracks to attack the Confederates in 1862. The boardwalk allows access through a low-lying area prone to be swampy and cuts through earthworks where Gen. Stonewall Jackson held the Confederate line.
