The Douglas County American legion was begun in 1920 but did not get a charter at that time. Very little information and archives were kept.
The post was officially chartered on July 17, 1946 and was designated Post #274. Membership held its meetings in the IOOF Hall. There were 56 members first listed.
In 1954, the Post purchased a building on Main Street and in 1966 the building was torn down and a new 44x120 building was constructed. Extensive remodeling was completed in 2004.
The building is used extensively by the community for wedding receptions, appreciation days, and soup suppers as well as other events.
Post 274 serves the area with Memorial Day services for Corsica, New Holland, and Harrison. It also provides a color guard and firing
