In Northampton, along Main Street within the downtown section, is the R. Michelson Galleries on the east side of the street, where there is a smallish sphinx sitting to the left of the entrance.
The sphinx has a lion body, and a human head that is bracketed by four flower petals. The head looks slightly upward. The size is maybe two feet long and about 1 1/2 feet high on top of a base that was likely a bank deposit box, raising it to about chest level.
The sphinx faces the sidewalk and is available at all hours.
