In the downtown section of Northampton there is a figurative bronze statue of a reclining frog on the west side of the road. This frog lies on a bin where people can drop in donations to feed the hungry.

The statue is about four feet long and approximately 2 feet around(eyeballing). The base/donation bin, made of concrete, is about four by 2 1/2 by 2 ft. The frog is in a more human type of pose, in a basic fetal type position with arm propping up the head. The eyes look upward. It appears to be wearing clothing and shoes. The bin has a handle to the safe on one side, along with a brochure holder. There are also two bronze plaques. The one on the front states:

"Feed the Frog
Feed the Hungry"

All donations made to the "Happy Frog" bank will go directly to feeding the hungry of our community because Northampton cares."

Another small plaque states: "Please place donations in slot," which is just below the opening.

The plaque on the short side states:

"In gratitude to Lu Stubbs, Sculptor
-2008-"

According to Masslive.com, the statue was a project of Friends of Hampshire County Homeless Individuals, Inc. A person went to Seattle and noticed at Pike's Market that people donated in a bronze piggy bank, called "Rachel the Pig." [Visited it myself.] When she came back to Northampton, she started the discussions on a similar program in Northampton.
