"Cruz Alta" is a cross located inside the area of Fatima Sanctuary.
The current "Cruz Alta" dates from August 29, 2007 when it was placed replacing the old "Cruz Alta".
The old "Cruz Alta," at 27 meters (88.5 ft), was erected to celebrate the end of the holy year of 1950/1951. It was located at the end of the prayer precinct and was removed because it was in the place where the new "Santissima Trindade" church was built. It was offered to the "Cristo Rei" Sanctuary in Almada (across the river from Lisbon).
The new "Cruz Alta" is placed by the side of the new church, measures 34 meters (111.5 ft) and is made of metal. It's a work of the artist Robert Schad.
