Den Bau des östlichen Streckenteils regelte das bayerische Gesetz vom 7. Mai 1852. Am 7. Mai 1860 wurde mit dem Bau der 53,3km langen Strecke Rosenheim–Traunstein begonnen. Nach der Fertigstellung wurde in Prien auch ein Bahnhof gebaut. Baulich leicht verändert begrüßt der Bahnhof heute die Bahnreisenden in Prien. Im Osten befindet sich die Chiemseebahn, die zum See fährt, im Süden die Chiemgaubahn, die nach Aschau fährt.

The construction of the eastern route section regulated the Bavarian law of 7 May, 1852. On 7 May 1860 began the construction of the 53.3 km long route Rosenheim-Traunstein. After the route was finished the railway station in Prien was built. Structurally altered slightly the station today welcomes the train travelers in Prien. In the east is the Chiemsee train, which runs to the lake and in the south is the chiemgau train, which runs to Aschau.
