The sculpture of these two life-size bronze chess players was created by sculptor Lloyd Lillie in 1983. It park where the statue is located is in the Judiciary Square area, a neighborhood in NW Washington, D.C.

Smithsonian Art Inventory Description: "Two seated male figures playing chess. Model for the older was the sculptor's father; model for the younger was the sculptor's son. Chess board is between the figures on bench ledge, with 27 chess pieces attached to board, 3 more on bench next to one of the figures. Figures are seated on existing granite bench ledge."
