In the Wasatch-Cache National Forest up Little Cottonwood canyon there are some great trails into the high mountain peaks. The Red Pine trailhead starts at 8042 feet elevation is one of these nice hikes. The hike is three miles from the parking area and has 1,940 feet (641 m) gain in elevation. Water from the snow melt and springs form a cool stream from the canyon. Great to cool off with after a good hike.
Located about 30 minutes southeast from downtown Salt Lake City in the Little Cottonwood canyon and about 1 mile east of Snowbird ski resort. Take I-15 south to 9000 south, turn left (east) on 9000 south and follow that road about 8 miles up the canyon to the White Pine canyon parking area (see parking Coords). Follow the White Pine trail to the trail head of Red Pine Fork.
