Frank Gorshin was born in Pittsburgh, PA on April 5, 1933 to Roman Catholic parents. She was a seamstress and he was a railroad worker. At the age of 15 he got a job in a movie theater and thus, his talents were born. He watched the screen and learned!

He graduated from Peabody High School in Pittsburgh and then he attended the Carnegie Tech School of Drama (now known as Carnegie Mellon University) also in Pittsburgh.

In 1953, he was drafted into the United States Army. While serving he met the person who would later introduce him to his agent, Paul Kohner. He is best remembered for his role as The Riddler on the live action Batman series staring Adam West. Besides being one of the many villains on the show, Frank Gorshin had a long career that spanned decades as an actor/comedian/impressionist.

Gorshin's final performance was in Memphis, Tennessee doing the Tony-nominated play Say Goodnight, Gracie. He finished his performance and boarded a plane for Los Angeles. Upon landing, he was met by an ambulance which took him to the hospital, where he later died on May 17, 2005, at the age of 72 from lung cancer, emphysema and pneumonia. After his cremation, his ashes were brought back to his hometown and he now rests near his parents and brother in Calvary Cemetery in Pittsburgh, Pa in the neighborhood of Hazelwood.
