On 4/10/2013 a massive landslide totally destroyed the Mine Visitor Center. Because of advance warning everything at the Visitor Center had been removed to a safe location. A new Visitor Center will probably not be available until after 2014.

During a visit to the Kennecott Visitor Center in Bingham Canyon, we came upon this interesting statue of a Hard Rock Miner, drill in one hand, a piece of malachite in the other.
Copper mining has been a way of life for many people in this area for over 100 years. This statue, "From This Earth", created by Glenn Emmons, pays tribute to all those who chose this occupation.
