The South Fork of the Shenandoah River near the Massanutten Mountain in Virginia is a popular spot for canoeists and kayakers. There are twenty public access points maintained by the VDGIF (Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries) which provide the opportunities for boat trips of various distances.
One point of access is the Inskeep Landing which is a concrete ramp into shallow water. It is not recommended for trailers. The landing is located off Rt. 684 on the left bank of the river downstream of a bridge. Parking is available.
A trip downstream to the next access at Foster's Landing is nine miles and has riffles, runs, and pools. Fishing provides smallmouth bass, rock bass, muskellunge, redbreast sunfish, largemouth bass, and channel catfish. If using Inskeep as a takeout from a float originating upstream, there is a portage across a dam at the bridge.
Most of the land bordering the Shenandoah River is private property except for the access points and small sections of the George Washington National Forest. Public access is free. Fishing requires a VA state fishing license.
