This coat of arms is on the pannelling in the church. It shows the griffins passant and the motto "Aperto vivere voto" which translates into "To live without a wish concealed". There are eight coats of arms given to the name Finch. This one includes the Earl of Aylesford with a black chevron between three griffins passant.
The Wynne family were tremendous benefactors to the village providing for the villagers, both with land and jobs. C.G. Wynne and his family established a day school in 1813 where 20 of the poorest children were able to learn for free.
In 1849 a Literary Society was set-up with 200 books donated from Mr Wynne both in Welsh and in English.
These details are available thanks to the church leaflet.
