This beautiful mosaic was a community project designed to celebrate the Millennium. It depicts scenes from rural Iowa and stands in the corner of Leech Park along Hwy. 71 in Spencer. A plaque reads as follows:

“The Gathering: Of Time, Of Land, Of Many Hands. 2000, Nina Smoot-Cain and John Pitman Weber. Iowa’s project for Artists and Communities. America Creates for the Millennium. Artists Communities-Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation. A National Millennium Project supported by the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation with funding from the National Endowment for the Arts, Culpeper Foundation/Rockefeller Brother’s Fund, and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation. Locally administered by Spencer Area Arts Council with major support provided by The City of Spencer, Iowa Arts Council, Spencer Renaissance Initiative. Led by John Pitman Weber and Nina Smoot-Cain with indispensable volunteer assistance from area residents. National Endowment for the Arts, Iowa Arts Council, Spencer Area Arts Council.”
