Older than the dinosaurs
These are parts of trunk from a primitive tree unearthed
in 1854 at Craigleith Quarry in Edinburgh, Scotland.
They were excavated from rocks 330million years old
(lower Carboniferous Period). Around this time the first
reptiles appeared, and much of the land was covered in
swampy forest.
