This piece was carved in 1895 by W T Neatby and is attached to the wall of the Royal Observatory. It shows the figure holding the Sun and the Moon, the sculpture shows the zodiacal signs for Aquarius (Water Bearer), Scorpio (Scorpion), Leo (Lion) and Taurus (Bull), which respectively represent the four elements Air, Water, Fire and Earth. The material used is fired terracotta and was produced by Doulton & Co of Lambeth.
The whole piece is in remarkable condition and it is hard to believe it was created more than 100 years ago.
