Western Mural - Edmond, OK - Murals on Waymarking.com

Not expecting to see something like this out in the country, along one of the main thoroughfares, I had to make a U-Turn and come back to enjoy this sight. I was pleasantly surprised to see it is a mural painted by the students of Bob Palmer, renowned Oklahoma muralist and professor at the University of Central Oklahoma, where he teaches the art of painting murals.

This mural wraps around the front of the Country Home Meat Company, a custom processing and meat sales company. The mural is appropriate to their business as it shows cowboys and horses, handling cattle on the open range.

The mural has several cowboys shown on horseback and standing, with the ropes of their trade. Cattle are standing and lying about, and a couple of herding dogs are also seen. The signature shows "Palmer" with the names of three students who did the painting: R. Wood, L.J. Dixon and Sharon McCoy.

In speaking with the business owner, he told how they first painted background areas with no detail. Then the team came at night and projected the scene onto the wall, making pencil sketches of their subjects. Then they returned to do the detail painting.
