Although most widely known now as the site of New Hamphsire's state fair, Hopkinton has a rich history goes back to at least 1765 when it was incorporated with settlers from Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Although the state legislature met here on occasion, the selection of the state's capital city fell to nearby Concord.
Among the many pieces of history here is the oldest covered railroad bridge in the United States, the Rowell Bridge #9 built by Horace Childs in 1835 using the unusual Burr technique.
The Town Hall is located near the town center, next to the old village cemetery.
