Chatham docks have been associated with the local area for hundreds of years. The Royal Navy first came to Chatham Docks in 1547. In 1984, 437 years later, they left, leaving a legacy of history with the local community.

To commemorate this epic stay, there is an Anchor on a small green close to the entrance to Chatham Docks, and not far from the home of the Royal Engineers, who still have a good presence in the local community.

There is a plaque in front of the anchor and is available to view 24/7.
