Nakhon Si Thammarat is a city and province in southern Thailand, ~700kms south of Bangkok. The bus station for the province lies to the north of the city. It is clearly of some age, and not overly large. This station deals with both local buses, which travel within the province, linking the capital to the small towns and villages around, plus the long distance buses to the neighbouring provinces and to Bangkok.
The station building is of a somewhat unusual design, almost tent like. It consists of two circular covered areas, which contain ticket counters, seats, and food and drink. The buses park around these 'tents' to take on passengers, with a large bus parking area on one side of the station. There are also a line of private bus companies in a neighbouring building, which supplies the more prestigious travel services.
