Every summer throngs of motorist drive north along I-91 in Connecticut to get to the popular Six Flags Amusement Park in Agawam, MA. Most follow the signs on I-91. When they do, they enter Springfield, MA, take Route 5 across the South End Bridge, go west on Route 57 then go south on Route 159 through Main St. in Agawam to the park (see map). Often the traffic is backed up from the Route 57 exit to the park, a distance of about 3 miles.
If you ignore the highway signs and cross into Agawam at this crossing you can save time and miles. This is the border between Agawam, MA and Suffield, CT. The entrance to Six Flags is only a couple of hundred meters north in Agawam. At the border crossing there is a single signpost with both town and state names, one on each side. You can reach this border crossing from I-91 by exiting onto Route 190 in Enfield, CT then take Route 159 north through Suffield.
