The Montrose County Courthouse was built in 1922. The building was designed by architect William N. Bowman in a Neo-Classical style. The exterior of the courthouse is constructed of tan sandstone from the nearby Kaleway Quarry which was brought to the construction site by mule. The stone is rusticated except for the quoins, banding and around the entry bay where it is smooth. The courthouse house is still used for county offices however the courts moved to a new Justice Center in November, 1998.
