There was no pub called The Royal Oak pre-dating the battle of Worcester in 1651,one of the conflicts of the English Civil War.
Having been defeated by Cromwell's New Model Army, King Charles and a number of his major supporters fled and sought shelter at White Ladies Priory and Boscobel House. Charles was at Boscobel House in disguise as a woodsman, As Commonwealth troops approached, Charles hid up a tree and the rest as they say, is indeed history.
