UPDATE: November 2018 - This restaurant moved from this location in 2017. Moved to a location in north Oklahoma City, but has since also closed at that location.
The Steak & Catfish Barn is an experience, for sure. You'll think you're driving up to a bait shop, and I hope it never changes. This wood and metal "shack" sits up on a hill on the northeast corner of Waterloo Road and Interstate 35. It's one of those places where you can kick back and relax. The walls are covered with memorabilia. Fish net covers the ceiling with tiny white Christmas lights and ceiling fans. It's noisy, busy, cluttered and just wonderful!
You can order steaks or hamburgers, but the specialty of the house is CATFISH. Their regular Catfish meal will cost you $8.99 and you get two sides. If you're really hungry, or want to compete for the record, you can order their All U Can Eat Catfish for $12.99 and take a chance on Stardom. The 2011 leader at this point ate 37 catfish filets...and it's just June.
The restroom (yes, either men or women) is located right in the middle of things, and there's nothing fancy in there either. Brings back memories of a roadside service station facilities. This place is a popular motorcycle club destination, and a place you can bring the whole family for an unfancy, laid-back, great meal.
The owners, Maria Vitali and Dean Smalley, first opened the "Italian Kitchen" restaurant here in 1998. They operated until 2004 when they changed the menu to steak and catfish and opened for lunch as well as dinner. The restaurant's website shows a video from a "Discover Oklahoma" television show. It's definitely a place you have to try if you're anywhere in the metropolitan area of Edmond/Guthrie/Arcadia/Oklahoma City. (
