The province of Narathiwat, and its capital city of the same name, are as far south as one can go in Thailand, and still be in Thailand. The southern border of the province abuts Malaysia. The bus station for the town and province lies on the southern side of the Narathiwat City, maybe three kilometres from the amorphous town centre.

In design it follows the standard layout. A main entrance facing the road leading to the station, which in turn leads to food, drink, and ticket counters. Behind this is a large, open covered waiting area, with bus bays around. Bays for sixteen buses.

The routes from this station lead to Bangkok, the centre of Thai transportation. Also to the neighbouring provinces, and to the small towns and villages in the province, as well as further south to the border with Malaysia. Minibuses seem to provide a major part of the transportation in this region. Very few tourists.

ADVISORY: For the last few years and decades there has been an ongoing insurgency in the Muslim populated provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat (the 'deep south' of Thailand). An average of 600 people (out of a pop. of 1.6 million) have been killed per year between 2004-9. The Australian government strongly urges its citizens not to visit these provinces: "do not travel". Having said all of this there is no blood on the streets, and life goes on normally for the vast majority of people. You have been advised.
