It was originally built in 1606 as a chapel of ease for Bradford Cathedral which is 3.5 miles away.

Over the years it was enlarged a number of times and extensively repaired in 1856. There are 9 bells in the tower, one of them dates from 1640, the other 8 from when the repairs were undertaken.
