From the plaque located nearby:

Cobb’s Kentucky Battery (CSA)
4 Napoleons, 1 12 PDR Howitzer.
Helm’s Brigade, Breckinridge’s Division, Hill’s Corps.
September 20, 1863
Capt. Robert Cobb, Commanding
1st Lieut. Frank P. Gracey.

This battery with Slocum's was engaged in a severe duel with two batteries of the enemy near Glass’ Mill in the forenoon of the 19th. Afterwards, with its brigade, it moved to the right, crossed the Chickamauga at Alexander's Bridge after nightfall, and bivouacked beyond. About 9:30 A.M. of the 20th, it moved with the attacking line between the left of Breckinridge’s Division and right of Cleburne’s. After advancing about half a mile the brigade became engaged. The battery then moved to the left behind a slight eminence and undertook to push the pieces by hand into action on this ground, the density of the timber preventing the use of the limbers. Before this position could be reached, it was subjected to such heavy artillery and musketry fire from front and left flank at short range that it was compelled to retire to cover about 500 yards in rear of the line, where it remained until 1 P.M., when a section under Lieut. Gracey was sent to report to Gen. Forrest who was operating against the enemies left and rear. There from ridge parallel to the Chattanooga Road this section did efficient service until the close of battle. Casualties of the battle: killed and wounded 12.
