The sign at this station says 'Municipal', however, this is clearly the provincial bus station. Buses from here depart for Bangkok, and stops north, and no where else. I was told, when I enquired, that a bus to the neighbouring province of Pattani was not to be found here, but in road side of the town centre, near the train station.
In design it follows the usual Thai provincial model. A long rectangular, open waiting area, with bus bays around. At the entrance end there are the ticket counters, food and drink on sale, and seats. Not a very busy station. Entirely lacks the hustle and bustle of stations north.
The station is a fair distance south from the town centre. It looks somewhat recent construction.
ADVISORY: For the last few years and decades there has been an ongoing insurgency in the Muslim populated provinces of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat (the 'deep south' of Thailand). An average of 600 people (out of a pop. of 1.6 million) have been killed per year between 2004-9. The Australian government strongly urges its citizens not to visit these provinces: "do not travel". Having said all of this there is no blood on the streets, and life goes on normally for the vast majority of people. You have been advised.
