In the Financial District of Boston, there is an Elephant and Castle Pub and Restaurant, located at 161 Devonshire Street in Boston. This restaurant is a franchise operation that covers 20 locations across the United States and Canada.
There are two entrances to this pub, the main one on Devonshire, and one on Arch Street, This neon sign, red-orange letters spelling the name of the restaurant, is above the entrance on Arch Street. The other has yellow lettering as is partly out on one of the short sides.
Good luck with parking - there is a public lot under Post Office Square a block away.
The web site for the operation stated that the first of these pubs was started in Vancouver, BC, Canaada in 1977. Thus, the Boston operation is at earliest from 1977, but is probably sooner. The web site has a corporate address of 50 Congress Street, Boston, however, which is only one to two blocks from this location.
The web site also explains that the name came from a corruption of the name for a princess of Spain, Infanta de Castille. There is an Elephant and Castle pub in London, England, but it appears that this operation is separate from the original Elephant and Castle.
