Green River is a community of about 1000 inhabitants situated on the banks of the river of the same name at the center of the eastern border of Emery County.

About 85% of the people in Green River live on the Emery County side of the Green River while the remainder occupy the former town of Elgin (the "G" is pronounced like in "give") on the east bank of the river and in Grand County.

The ecomony of Green River is now centered around travelers on Interstate 70 since there is a stretch of 110 miles west of the city with no services for motorists until you freach Salina.
