At the southeast part of the island of Antigua are two major attractions - the Interpretive Center at Dow's Hill at Fort Dow and the historic Nelson's Dockyards. The interpretive center offer a program explaining the history of Antigua.
When traveling between these places you can take a short detour to Shirley Heights. This area was once a large military complex, spread out along a ridge, for the defense of the island. There are old barracks buildings, a cemetery, a blockhouse, and the lookout. From this lookout you can enjoy the exact same view of the harbor as shown on the 1938 stamp from Antigua. The town of English Harbour, located just below and nestled against the harbor, still retains its earlier charm.
