The railway was built in 1850 as the Shipley and Guisley branch line, which links through to Ilkley.
The bridge is more modern than 1850, but I don’t know when it was rebuilt.
There is a sign on the bridge with a phone number in case a waterborne vehicle hits the bridge. It seems highly unlikely to me that acanal boat could possibly damage the bridge, but better safe than sorry I guess.
As well as the wide main span over the canal, there is a shorter span over Dockfield Road which is right next to the canal.
If you look towards the bridge from the Leeds side then the road span is labelled as GUE2 – 2.
The co-ordinates and pictures were taken from the canal tow path.
Bridge Type: Truss
Bridge Usage: Railroad
