A forlorn looking cemetery that was at one time neglected and lately has been taken care of by residents. There are roughly 540 graves listed in burial records with about 80% of them identified. Some like Chicken Joe, had simple burials with almost no identification. Others are well known as pioneers of the area whose descendants continue to live nearby.
The cemetery opened in 1885 when Clem Collins donated an acre of land next to the Free Methodist Church for a cemetery. The church eventually moved. The land surrounding the cemetery is open farm land. The last burial appears to have been in 1962.
Burrowing owls make their home here. One of them startled me as I was taking pictures. I was just a few feet from its burrow at the time. He took a nice picture in the cemetery.
