The birding area consists of an elevated handicap-accessible viewing boardwalk that contains interpretive signs, viewing decks with binoculars. Species such as great blue herons, ducks, black-crowned night herons, Hummingbirds, King Fishers, snowy egrets, Meadowlark, Mourning Dove, red-winged blackbirds, yellow-headed blackbirds, and barn swallows are fairly common visitors to the site. There are also other wildlife you might get to see along the trail such as cottontail bunnies, Yellow-Bellied Marmots and muskrats or beavers.
The parking area is a short distance away at the Strawberry visitors center.
The Upper Strawberry Watershed qualified as an IBA due to its use by an estimated 500 Greater Sage-Grouse, over 200 American White Pelicans, and at least 10 pairs of Three-toed Woodpeckers.
The Strawberry River Discovery Trail is just off US highway 40 about 23 miles east of Heber City. Take the turnoff to the Strawberry marina and park at the Strawberry visitors center. There you will find the discovery trail.
