These reliefs are on the base of a statue of Phineas Banning. Banning was successful in several businesses...and is credited with developing the Los Angeles Harbor- where this statue stands.
The reliefs depicts three of his prominent successes: a railroad, mercantile shipping and a stagecoach.
The front panel reads in part:
"Phineas Banning
August 18, 1830 - March 8, 1885
Founder of Wilmington and The Los Angeles Harbor
This Sculpture is Dedicated to the Community of Wilmington
And The Banning Community Center on October 28, 2004..."
A list of City Council memebers and others appear as well as the name of the sculptor...Eugene Daub.
