Martin Marty & Rev Sylvester Eisenman HM in Marty, SD includes a map of the buildings comprising the Indian Mission in Marty, SD. Martin was the first Roman Catholic Bishop of Dakota Territory and established Saint Ann's Mission at Wheeler, SD (30 miles NW of here), the first Indian Mission, in 1877. He later became the first Bishop of Sioux Falls, SD in 1889. Eisenman established the Saint Paul's Mission in Marty, SD and opened it as a school for Indian Education in 1924, with help from three Holy Sacrament Sisters.
