This church was built in 1877 by the Fitzwilliam–Wentworth family, in memory of their mother and father, and also to replace a much older church on the other side of the road.
It is a very large church for such a small village and the spire is 200 feet high.
Church clocks needed to be seen from far away and many of them have blue faces and gold lettering. It was found that this was much easier to read than clocks with black faces.

The clock was given by the parishioners of Wentworth, the
Wentworth Estate tenants and other friends to commemorate the coming of-age of William Charles de Meuron Fitzwilliam, Viscount Milton.
