The plaque, adjacent to the gun, reads:
"On the base ring this gun shows the makers name 'F.M. Eardley-Wilmot'.
On the first reinforce a cypher of Queen Victoria with the words 'DIEU ET MON DROIT'.
This translates as 'GOD AND MY RIGHTS' and was a motto of the British Monarch referring to their divine right to govern.
On the first reinforcing ring the weight '13-2-1 (Ton - Hundredweights - Quarters)' and on the second reinfoce the '4940'.
On the chase a cypher with the words 'UNG JE SERVIARY', which translates as 'ONLY ONE WILL I SERVE'.
On the right hand trunnion 'T21-DCCCXXXIV', on the left hand trunnion the date '1859'."
