This peaceful farm on the Iowa prairie hardly looks like a “high point” but it marks the state’s high point with an elevation of 1670’. Hawkeye Point now belongs to Osceola County and is free to the public. Although there is no hill or mound, three states can be seen from this point: Iowa, Minnesota, and South Dakota. It is located a short distance off Hwy. 60 on a gravel road.
Besides the mosaic marker at the center of the grounds, there is a picnic table, a veterans’ memorial, interpretive signs, and 46 arrows marking the distance to other high elevation spots throughout the nation. Be sure to see the decorative painted barn quilt and have your picture taken at the cut-out.
