The street-facing side of this large utility box displays the curved-lightning logo of the San Diego Chargers football team (also known as the "Bolts" -- "Chargers" originally referred to horses, but people picked up on the electrical pun, which is very appropriate in this context).

The other three sides, though, are painted in irregular shapes of colors separated by a network of black lines that suggest stained-glass windows. Perhaps the artist wanted to enshrine the Chargers in a very sanctified atmosphere!

The painting of utility boxes in this neighborhood is sponsored by the Mira Mesa Town Council (a volunteer/business organization) and has been spearheaded by the Mira Mesa High School art department. See (visit link) for more information.

There are photos of about 30 of the other Mira Mesa utility boxes, some with info about the artists, at (visit link) .
