Guatiza - A landmark of the town is the cactus garden Jardín de Cactus on the northern outskirts, which is identified by an oversized metal cactus at the entrance. 1989 lanzarote African artist and environmentalist César Manrique had begun to build into this botanical garden in the middle of Opuntienfelder into a disused quarry - his last major work before his death. In 1990, the Jardín de Cactus was officially opened. At the northern edge is a restored gofio mill. The cactus garden is terraced as an amphitheater, also elements that are reminiscent of Japanese gardens that characterize the architecture. The soil covered volcanic lapilli, the night dew stored volcanic ash, as it is also used for dry farming. Overall flourish on 5,000 square meters more than 10,000 copies of 1400 different species of cactus. Architecturally sensitive Manrique can also build the associated bar-restaurant from the volcanic rock of the environment.
