This chimney is located in Avenida Vasco da Gama, an urban area of Seixal.
It's one of the many that existed in that area, when the Cork industry was at its peak.
When in 1905 the firm L. Mundet & Sons, was established in Seixal, the cork industry on the south bank of the Tagus earned an international reputation, coming to be regarded as the largest producer of cork in the world of processors. Specialized mainly in the manufacture of cork paper, for cigarette filters, business cards and material representation.
