Twenty-First Corps (Crittenden).

Friday, p.m., September the team, 1863, this regiment with its brigade was ordered from Crawfish Springs to support Woods Division, then engaged near Lee and Gordon's Mill.

Saturday, September 19, with its brigade met and repulsed the severe charge of Stewart's Division East of Lafayette Road, after which it was ordered to the position where this monument stands and aided in successfully resisting the fierce assaults of the enemy from 4 until 4:30 P. Sunday morning, September 20, in line west of Lafayette Road near Kelly Field, severely engaged for a short time with Breckenridge's troops and upon retiring took position on the next ridge beyond the Snodgrass house, about 5 PM marched to McFarland’s Gap.
