Howell Harris and Daniel Rowland are credited with starting the Presbyterian Movement in Wale in 1735. They were Methodists and Calvinists in theology.

In 1811 the Presbyterians separated from the established church. After a period of growth a number of chapels were built starting in 1859.

This chapel was built in 1880 and the date stone is high up on the building.

Borth Y Gest is about 1 mile from the larger town of Porthmadog.
